Li Hongzhang, Edison and Frankenstein
In the middle of 19th century, industrial civilization, entered into China. The core of the Westernization Movement and Hundred Day Reform were aimed both to develop industrial civilization and study western knowledge, actually, it was China’s choice.
Similar with today, without developing themselves, many countries began to lag behind and suffered much. Facing a large number of internal and external problems, China chose western industrial civilization. It seemed like that in many cases in history, such choices result in far reaching implications with unintended consequences.
Given a historical point of view, the development proved that the development model of western industrial civilization had both unintended consequences and were not suitable nor sustainable for China’s unique situation in terms of its people, its land and its history.
